Overview of Our Work

Health is determined by more than our choices and access to care.

The existence of safe housing, public transportation, education, access to nutritional and affordable foods, and opportunities to be physically active all impact our health.

There are institutional and social inequities that systemically affect the health of our communities.

Simply promoting healthy choices won’t eliminate these inequities, and therefore the programs listed below are designed to improve the conditions in people’s environments that impact health. Due to the nature of these programs, improvements in health cannot be achieved quickly. It takes time to see the impacts of all we do.

In order to take action and improve the health of Wood County residents, several key focus areas have been identified in the Community Health Improvement Plan (CHIP).
